Dental Insurance

Dental insurance refers to insurance to cover some or all of a person’s dental expenses. Routine dental expenses such as checkups and cleaning expenses are relatively moderate though the procedures such as installing crowns or implants can be expensive. According to the National Association of Dental Plans, 46 percent of Americans carry no dental insurance.

If your employer is providing dental insurance, they may use a network of dentists who are participating in the programme. The coverage for which you are eligible may look something like this:

-A maximum benefit of $1500 per year

-Diagnostic and preventive care (plan pays 100 percent)

-tooth cleaning and maintenance (plan pays 75 percent)

-maintenance of dentures (plan pays 75 percent)

-treatment for cavities and fillings (plan pays 60 percent)

-tooth extraction and minor surgery (plan pays 60 percent)

-Root canals treatment and associated work (plan pays 60 percent)

Cosmetic procedures are generally not covered.

There are many dental plans designed for individuals that can be purchased from PPOs and these either provide proper insurance or some form of discount scheme to reduce the burden of dental bills. If you feel that your dental bills are going to exceed say $500 a year, you may seriously want to investigate taking out dental insurance. You and your family may have healthy teeth and a lot of dental problems can be prevented with proper precautions and care. Remember, however that root canal treatment, treating cavities and getting fillings or tooth extraction may have you running up quite a dental bill.
